Student Testimonials
I've known Andy for eight years now. Andy's extensive musical education and experience as both a performer and teacher qualify him to effectively teach multiple instruments and topics. Andy always has a lesson plan and supplements it with notation, reference recordings and documentation. He takes an incremental approach and makes good use of his students' time. He is always patient and upbeat. I've had many music teachers during my life, and Andy is clearly one of the standouts. John M.
I have been taking lessons with Andy for about 4 years now and could not be happier! Andy is beyond a teacher- he is an educator. He does a lot more than teach the subject. He makes sure you understand it and “get it.” Learning music is a process which he has streamlined and will have you playing in a few sessions. Nothing too difficult but at least you're playing. I have known a lot of teachers in my life but very few educators. Bill S.
What makes Andy Novara such a great teacher is his deep knowledge and love for the music. He communicates this with clear tablatures, great reference videos, slow and patient demos and reviews of the covered material, and most importantly encouraging learning to play by ear. His own playing is an inspiration to all students. Annie M.
I love taking lessons with Andy. He's an exceptional teacher focused on developing an ability to ‘get out there and play’. The progression is perfect, from simple to complex, and tailored to my current abilities with a song or phrase. He incorporates just the right amount of music theory, exercises, and even bluegrass history and happily answers my numerous questions. On multiple occasions Andy was able to identify small details in my technique that needed improvement and provided a solution that has greatly improved my playing. I feel that I'm always learning something new that I didn’t expect and have walked away from each lesson more motivated to keep playing. Mark A.
